Her work focuses on feminist history of philosophy, particularly examining the roles of women in Enlightenment-era political and social thought. She is currently leading a project funded by the British Academy investigating abolitionist debates in 18th-century France and Britain, emphasizing marginalized voices such as Black and religious minority thinkers. Berges holds a PhD from the University of Leeds and previously taught at Bilkent University in Turkey before joining York in 2024. Her research spans works on Mary Wollstonecraft, Olympe de Gouges, and Sophie de Grouchy, among others.
Her research interests include the intersection of domesticity and political participation, with a monograph forthcoming on domesticity in feminist philosophy. She collaborates on projects like Project Vox (Duke University) and co-founded the Society for Women in Philosophy, Turkey. Berges also blogs extensively on topics like women philosophers and domesticity, contributing to platforms like Hesperus is Phosphorus.
Berges has secured significant grants, including a CAD2.78 million SSHRC grant for expanding research on neglected philosophical works by women. Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary feminist theory, advocating for a re-evaluation of marginalized philosophical contributions.
