Sandra Shapshay is a Professor of Philosophy at Hunter College (CUNY) and serves as Faculty Deputy Executive Officer. Her research bridges Aesthetics and the History of Philosophy, with a focus on environmental aesthetics, Kant, Schopenhauer, and ethical theory.
- Education: Ph.D. in Philosophy from Columbia University
Her work explores the sublime in Kantian and Schopenhauerian traditions, the ethical dimensions of environmental aesthetics, and reconstructive projects on Schopenhauer's moral philosophy. She has contributed to key debates on monuments, public art, and the intersection of art and morality.
Recent publications include analyses of monumental aesthetics (2021), Schopenhauer's ethics (2019), and critical engagements with the sublime (2021-2013). These works span topics in aesthetic theory, German Idealism, and environmental ethics.
