Mary Troxell is an Associate Professor of the Practice in the Philosophy Department at Boston College since 2004. She previously taught part-time there from 2001. Her research focuses on German Idealism, aesthetics, and ethics, with a specialization in Kant, Schopenhauer, and 19th-century philosophy. She teaches courses on social responsibility, modernism, and service learning, notably in the PULSE Program for Service Learning. Troxell holds a B.A. from Amherst College and two Ph.D.s from Boston University and the Catholic University of America.
Her scholarly work engages themes of structural injustice, moral philosophy, and aesthetic theory. Recent publications include analyses of Schopenhauer’s philosophy, Kant’s aesthetics, and ethical frameworks addressing social sin. She has also contributed encyclopedia entries and critical reviews on existential and aesthetic topics. Troxell mentors students on Arrupe Immersion trips to Latin America and the Caribbean, emphasizing experiential learning and social justice.
