Sandra Quiñones is an Associate Clinical Professor of Teacher Education at the University of Connecticut's Neag School of Education, Department of Curriculum and Instruction. She serves as Director of School-University Partnerships for the Integrated Bachelor’s and Master’s (IB/M) Teacher Education Program. Dr. Quiñones specializes in qualitative research focusing on Latina teachers' sociocultural perspectives, bilingual-bicultural education, and family engagement in community schools. Her work bridges K-12 and higher education experiences, with over 25 years of teaching across New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, and Connecticut.
Education includes a PhD in Teaching, Curriculum & Change (University of Rochester, 2012), MA in Teaching (Elementary Education, 1998), and dual BA in Psychology & Religion (1997), all from the University of Rochester. Key research areas include multicultural education equity, critical qualitative methodologies, and community engagement strategies. Collaborative projects include studies on family engagement in Pennsylvania community schools, self-study teacher education practices, and Puerto Rican educator narratives.
Professional roles prior to UConn include Associate Professor at Duquesne University and leadership in educational consulting for Puerto Rico's Department of Education and New York State. Her scholarship emphasizes culturally responsive pedagogy, educational justice, and bridging institutional-community partnerships. Office hours are held Mondays/Wednesdays 1-4pm at Gentry 432, Storrs campus.
