Sandra Martin is an Associate Professor in Pharmacy Practice at the School of Pharmacy & Medical Sciences, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Bradford. She joined the university in December 2017 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in July 2023. Since 2020, she has led the MSc/PGDip Foundation Pharmacy Practice (multi-sector) programme for early career pharmacists in Yorkshire and the north of England.
Her research interests include:
- Teaching and learning of Antimicrobial Stewardship for undergraduate pharmacy students and postgraduate pharmacists
- Research into post-graduate clinical pharmacy programmes and impact of learning on pharmacists progression and patient care
- Patient and public involvement with postgraduate pharmacy education
- Use of digital technology to support innovative teaching, learning and assessment
Dr. Martin is currently undertaking educational research about teaching, learning and assessment of Antimicrobial Stewardship through a part-time Doctor of Education degree. Her teaching specialty focuses on antimicrobials, antimicrobial stewardship and antimicrobial resistance for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Prior to her position at Bradford, she worked as a Clinical Academic Lecturer at the University of Manchester (2015-2018) where she led Postgraduate Advanced Clinical Skills courses for emergency department pharmacists. Her extensive clinical background includes 26 years as a hospital pharmacist in the NHS, with roles at Leeds General Infirmary (1989-1999) and Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (1999-2015), where she served as a Senior Antimicrobial Pharmacist.
