Dr. Sandra Alfoldy is a Professor of Craft History at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD University) and Associate Curator of Fine Craft at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Canada. Her research focuses on intersections between craft, architecture, and popular culture, with notable contributions to craft historiography and curatorial practice. She holds a Ph.D. from Concordia University (2001) and leads the SSHRC-funded project "Craft and Popular Culture."
Her curatorial work includes exhibitions like the Canadian Craft exhibition at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, the 2009 Cheongju International Craft Biennale, and co-curation of On the Table (2007). Her publications explore themes such as craft theory, architectural conservation, and craft’s role in socio-cultural contexts.
Alfoldy’s academic contributions bridge art history and material culture studies, emphasizing craft’s interdisciplinary potential. Her research spans historical analysis to contemporary practices, advocating for craft’s relevance in modern discourse.
