Rebecca Hannon is an Associate Professor of Jewellery Design and Metalsmithing at NSCAD University, co-director of the Dr. Sandra Alfoldy Craft Institute, and a leading figure in contemporary craft. She holds an MFA from Akademie der Bildenden Künste (Munich) and a BFA from RISD. Her research explores color/pattern relationships, conceal/reveal themes in nature and human culture, and sustainable digital fabrication techniques. Notable awards include the Mid-Career Artist Scholarship (SNAG, 2015) and NSCAD/SSHRC grants. Current roles include NS Project Leader for SHIFT NS/Scotland and consultant for Digital Opportunities for Makers (Canada Council).
Her creative practice features vibrant laminate jewelry inspired by camouflage and folk art, exhibited globally. Key exhibitions include 'Contemporary Camouflage' (Mary Black Gallery, 2018) and 'Conceal or Reveal?' (Mobilia Gallery, 2019). She has presented at venues like the Canadian Craft Biennial and delivered papers on sustainable fashion pedagogy. Recent works investigate protective coloration theories and 3D pattern/form interactions.
