Dr. Carla Taunton is an Assistant Professor at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University (NSCAD) in the Division of Art History and Critical Studies, with an adjunct appointment in Cultural Studies at Queen's University. Her work bridges Indigenous performance art, digital media, and socio-political decolonization projects.
- Research Focus: Indigenous arts-based approaches to decolonization, indigenization, and social justice; writing Indigenous-specific art histories; challenging colonial narratives.
- Collaborative Projects: Co-investigator for The Kanata Indigenous Performance, New and Digital Media Art Project; co-organizer of the Art and Activism Project at NSCAD.
Scientific Awards
- 2012 Governor General's Gold Medal for Ph.D. thesis on Indigenous women's performance art.
