Samuel Horlor is a Lecturer in Ethnomusicology at Durham University's Department of Music, serving as Chair of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Previously a Postdoctoral Fellow at Yunnan University (China), his research focuses on global street music, Chinese-language performances in the UK, and audience studies. He has authored Chinese Street Music: Complicating Musical Community (Cambridge UP) and co-edited Musical Spaces: Place, Performance, and Power (Jenny Stanford Publishing). His work has been recognized with the Rulan Chao Pian Publication Prize (2023).

Research Interests: Ethnomusicology, popular music studies, Chinese music, street music, music in everyday life, audience research. His work explores intersections of musical practices with urban environments, cultural identity, and socio-economic dynamics.
