Dr. Samuel Horlor is a Lecturer in Ethnomusicology and Chair of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee at Durham University's Department of Music. A former Postdoctoral Fellow at Yunnan University's Center for Ethnomusicology, his research examines global street music, Chinese-language performances in the UK, and audience dynamics.

- Cross-cultural audience perceptions
- Economic exchange in musical contexts
- Ethics of public performance
Publications analyze the social dynamics of musical spaces, with recent work investigating amateur-professional boundaries in Wuhan's park performances. Awarded 2023 Rulan Chao Pian Prize for foreign rock musicians' audience research.
Supervises doctoral students including Luka Zeng and Mo Zhou on ethnomusicology topics. President of CHIME, European Platform for Chinese Music Research.
