Sally Maitlis is a Professor of Organisational Behaviour and Leadership at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and a Fellow of the British Academy. Previously, she held a professorship at the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia. She earned a PhD in Organisational Behaviour from the University of Sheffield and a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy from Middlesex University. Her research focuses on how individuals navigate challenges in and around work, including career derailment, trauma, and mental health, employing qualitative methodologies. She has been honored as a Distinguished Scholar by the Academy of Management (2023).
Research interests include organizational sensemaking, trauma resilience, meaningful work, and compassion in workplaces. She teaches leadership and qualitative research methods, contributing to executive programs like the Oxford High Performance Leadership Programme. Her interdisciplinary work bridges organizational studies with arts, psychology, and healthcare.
Key publications explore narrative analysis, strategic decision-making, and the impact of adversity on identity. Sally also serves as an executive coach, psychotherapist, and former Chair of the Oxford Symphony Orchestra, integrating arts and organizational insights.
