Sabine Layer is a lecturer at the Stuttgart Academy of Music and Performing Arts and served as musical director of the Staufer Festspiele Göppingen from 2012 until 2021. She has conducted the Esslingen Philharmonic Choir since May 2000 and regularly collaborates with the International Bach Academy on educational initiatives.
Her professional focus centers on choral conducting and vocal pedagogy, with innovative projects spanning traditional oratorio literature to staged productions like "OPERA!" (2017) and "Night and Dream" (2023). Layer is particularly renowned for large-scale music education projects, having directed over 1,500 children in Baden-Württemberg's "Creation - Earth to Future" (2022/23) and adapting classical works by Bach, Handel, and Haydn for youth performers.
Layer's educational contributions include directing school rehearsals and final concerts for International Bach Academy projects involving 250+ children per initiative. She has recorded piano reductions for the globally distributed "Choral Singing Made Easy" CD series (Peters Verlag) and conducted major productions including Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte" and Humperdinck's "Hansel und Gretel".
She currently leads the Esslingen Philharmonic Choir and maintains active collaborations with ensembles like the Gaechinger Cantorey under Hans-Christoph Rademann, focusing on community engagement through thematic concert projects and children's music education.
