Sabine Gruber is a Professor in the Department of Psychology and Social Work at Mid Sweden University. Her academic title is Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). She specializes in social work, migration, integration, and institutional practices, with a focus on ethnicity, education policies, and the welfare state. Her research often addresses issues related to multiculturalism, migrant experiences, and social inclusion in Sweden. She has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, including works on language policies, foster care systems, and participatory research methodologies.
Gruber’s research interests include critical social work, participatory action research, and the intersection of migration, gender, and institutional practices. She has published extensively on topics such as cultural competence in child welfare, firewalls for undocumented migrants, and the role of language in migration integration. Her work frequently critiques institutional policies and advocates for socially just practices in education and social services.
Her recent articles (2022–2025) highlight trends in multilingual social work, longitudinal studies of asylum seekers, and the ethical challenges of working in secure youth institutions. Gruber has also collaborated on edited collections addressing social work’s role in activism, resistance, and societal change.
