Hanna Scott is a University lecturer at Linköping University's Department of Culture and Society and Department of Social Work. Her academic work bridges legal studies, social work, and migration research, focusing on welfare law frameworks within interdisciplinary contexts.
Her research examines crime exposure experiences among young migrants in Sweden, particularly how access to formal and informal protection is negotiated within irregular migration contexts. Current work includes the project Crime exposure among young people in a context of irregular migration: Undocumented, helpless, lawless?, funded by the Swedish Crime Victims' Agency. She investigates legal consciousness, firewall principles for social services access, and systemic barriers faced by undocumented youth seeking protection.
Scott's publication trends reveal consistent interdisciplinary output since 2019, with increasing focus on institutional barriers in Swedish welfare systems. Her work spans academic journals (Journal of Law and Society, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies), policy analyses, and public commentary in major Swedish media. Key themes include mandatory reporting obligations, non-reporting of violence due to legal vulnerability, and educational access barriers for undocumented youth.
As an educator, she teaches welfare law within the social work program, connecting theoretical frameworks to practical social work challenges. Her teaching emphasizes how social problems emerge and the role of social interaction in human development within welfare contexts.
