Ryan V. Scherber is an Assistant Professor of Music Education and Director of Bands at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), where he also oversees the CWRU Bands program and the Tuba & Euphonium Studio. He concurrently serves as Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium within the Joint Music Program at the Cleveland Institute of Music. His roles include coordinating undergraduate studies in Music Education and directing Florida State University Summer Music Camps. Scherber holds a B.M. in Music Education from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music, and a M.M. and Ph.D. in Music Education from Florida State University. Prior to CWRU, he taught K-12 music in Ohio's Southeastern Local District.
His research focuses on pitch perception, nonverbal teacher behaviors, and instructional effectiveness. He has published in Research Perspectives in Music Education and Florida Music Director, and presented at conferences like NAfME National, Desert Skies Symposium, and Texas Music Educators Association. Scherber trained in conducting with Terrence Milligan, Rodney Winther, and others, and studied tuba under Timothy Northcut and William Weikert.
Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate music education coursework. He balances academic leadership with performance instruction, maintaining active involvement in both university and community music programs.
