Jason Delfing serves as a full-time Lecturer in the Department of Music at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), within the College of Arts and Sciences. He teaches instrumental methods, curriculum and assessment strategies, and guitar methods courses. Previously, he held a role as Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Allegheny College, where he instructed Music Appreciation, Music History, and conducted the Allegheny Wind Symphony.
Dr. Delfing’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s in Music Education from Cleveland State University, two Master’s degrees—one in Education, Administration, and Supervision from the University of Phoenix and another in Music Education from Arizona State University—and a Ph.D. in Music Education from CWRU.
His research focuses on the characteristics of cooperating teachers and the development of skilled music educators. He has presented work at conferences such as the Instrumental Music Teacher Education conference in Ohio and the Desert Skies Symposium in Arizona. Additionally, he has conducted ensembles, including the CWRU Symphonic Winds alongside Dr. Ryan Scherber at the Ohio Music Educators Association Conference.
Before pursuing his Ph.D., Delfing taught middle school and high school music for 15 years in Arizona and California. He is now based in his home state of Ohio, where he continues to contribute to music education. Beyond academia, he resides in Cleveland with his wife, Theresa, and three dogs, and is part of an extended family with nine nieces and nephews.
