Mark Thiele is Assistant Professor of Tuba/Euphonium and Director of Bands at the University of Idaho's Lionel Hampton School of Music, within the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences. He leads the Wind Ensemble, teaches conducting, and mentors the tuba and euphonium studio. He is also an active performer with the Idaho Brass Quintet and a frequent clinician across the Pacific Northwest.

His research and professional interests focus on wind band literature, brass pedagogy, conducting, and music education. He has commissioned new works from Northwest composers and led ensembles at major conferences including the NAfME All-Northwest Conference and Idaho Music Educators Conference.
Though no formal publications are listed, his professional activities reflect deep engagement in performance, education, and ensemble direction, particularly in wind and brass music.

Mark Thiele has mentored students who have won the UI Concerto Competition and reached semi-finals in the Falcone International Solo Competition. He previously taught at the University of Mary Washington and led the Marine Band Music Education Outreach program. He has conducted the Wind Symphony and Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble at George Mason University and currently directs multiple ensembles at the University of Idaho.
He is actively involved in ensemble leadership, including the University of Idaho Wind Ensemble, Idaho Brass Quintet, and previously The Dominion Brass and chamber ensembles with the Marine Band.
