Prof. Ryan Carniaux is a faculty member at the Folkwang University of the Arts, affiliated with the College for Music and Art within the Jazz Department. He serves as the Study Programme Coordinator for Jazz and holds the academic rank of Professor. Carniaux teaches jazz trumpet, ensemble playing, and aural training, combining pedagogical expertise with professional performance experience.
- Education: Berklee College of Music (1998-2002), Conservatorium Maastricht (Masters in Jazz Trumpet, 2005-2007)
His research interests and professional activities focus on jazz performance, ensemble dynamics, and aural skills development. As a freelance trumpeter, he has collaborated with renowned artists across Europe and the USA, including Manfred Schoof, David Liebman, and Douglas Sides, while leading his own band and releasing albums like Reflections of the Persevering Spirit (2011).
Carniaux actively contributes to international jazz education through guest lectures, workshops, and ensemble projects. His professional engagements include CD productions such as Constellations, the Björk Project (2014) with Mark Egan and Karl Latham.
