Ingrid Jensen

Ingrid Jensen serves as Associate Dean and Director of Jazz Arts at Manhattan School of Music (MSM), where she holds a faculty position in Jazz Trumpet. A Berklee College of Music alumna (1989), she maintains active performance and educational roles globally while leading MSM's Jazz department.

Her educational background includes foundational training at Berklee College of Music (1989). Jensen's research and artistic focus centers on jazz trumpet pedagogy, big band direction, and cross-genre collaborations. She emphasizes uncovering students' individual musical voices while exploring music's capacity for global healing and expression. Her work bridges traditional jazz with contemporary R&B, pop, and creative music through projects like the Mary Lou Williams celebration and Mingus interpretations.

Jensen's scientific recognition includes being named JJA Trumpeter of the Year (2019) and consistent top rankings in Downbeat Critics Polls. Her Juno Award-winning collaboration with sister Christine Jensen's Jazz Orchestra highlights her interdisciplinary impact.

As an educator, Jensen mentors emerging artists while maintaining performance partnerships with legends like Wayne Shorter and Esperanza Spalding. Her leadership revitalized MSM's Jazz program post-pandemic with four major spring ensemble events. She previously taught at University of Michigan, Peabody Conservatory, Purchase College, and The New School.

Jensen directs significant ensembles including the Christine Jensen Jazz Orchestra and Nordic Connect. Her current projects feature collaborations with Blue Note's Artemis band and Whirlwind Recordings releases honoring Kenny Wheeler.
