Ryan Beeken is a Professor of Choral Activities, Associate Director of the School of Music, and Area Coordinator for Choral Activities at Wichita State University (WSU), within the College of Fine Arts. He leads the Concert Chorale and Madrigal Singers, teaches choral conducting at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and oversees the choral program at WSU.
Education:
- Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and Music Education, Drake University
- Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting, Michigan State University
Research interests focus on choral performance, pedagogy, and ensemble leadership. He has conducted honor choirs across 19 U.S. states and internationally in the Czech Republic, Austria, and Slovenia. Notable engagements include the 2018 A Cappella Abroad Festival in Prague and the upcoming 2023 Dublin Choral Festival. He serves as Repertoire and Standards Co-Chair for the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) national board and held executive roles at state and regional ACDA levels.
Advising and Leadership: Supervises choral studies at WSU and previously held director roles at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Drake University. His 16 years of K-12 teaching included directing a nationally recognized program at Waukee Schools in Des Moines, Iowa, with 300+ students and 12 ensembles.
Labs/Teams: Directs WSU's Concert Chorale and Madrigal Singers, leading performances at national and regional ACDA conventions. Engages in international choral festivals and serves as a clinician/adjudicator for All-State and honor choirs.
