Dr. Rachel Carlson is an Assistant Professor and Director of Choral and Vocal Activities at Kean University in Union, NJ. She conducts the Kean University Concert Choir and Chorale and teaches Aural Skills. Previously, she served as Director of Choral Activities at Shepherd University, where she conducted multiple choirs and taught choral methods, conducting, and voice.

Dr. Carlson specializes in choral conducting, vocal performance, and music education. Her research interests include aural skills pedagogy and community choral engagement. She has presented workshops and research at state, regional, and national ACDA conferences and national NCCO conferences.
Dr. Carlson is recognized for her leadership in choral music:
- President of the MD/DC chapter of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA)
- Nominated for a Wammie (Washington Area Music Award) for best Classical Conductor/Director in 2014
- Founder of Six Degree Singers, a community choir based in Silver Spring, MD (2009)
She serves as a clinician, adjudicator, and guest conductor across Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Delaware. Her professional career includes touring as a freelance choral singer and soprano soloist with ensembles like the Oregon Bach Festival and Bach Ensemble Helmuth Rilling.
