James Kim is an Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Colorado State University. He leads the CSU Chamber Choir and teaches conducting, choral literature, and choral techniques at undergraduate and graduate levels. His career spans roles as Interim Artistic Director for the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir, assistant conductor at the Opera Theater of Lucca (Italy), and artistic director of the Colorado Bach Ensemble.

His research and practice focus on choral conducting, vocal pedagogy, and classical music performance, with an emphasis on sacred works like Bach's B Minor Mass and Handel's Messiah. Kim's choirs have performed at major national and international events, including the National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO) conference, ACDA, and Aspen Music Festival.
Notable achievements include participation in prestigious workshops such as the Chicago Conducting Workshop (Conducting Fellow) and Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart. He has also collaborated with renowned conductors like Helmuth Rilling and Frieder Bernius through global masterclasses.
