Russell DeVuyst is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Music Performance at McGill University's Schulich School of Music. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the Boston Conservatory of Music and a Master of Trumpet Performance (with Distinction) from the New England Conservatory of Music. Prior to his current role, he served as Associate Principal Trumpet of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (1992–2016) and held principal trumpet positions with orchestras such as the Israel Philharmonic, Boston Opera Company, and Venezuela Symphony. His teaching focuses on trumpet instruction, ensemble coaching, and orchestral repertoire.
DeVuyst has conducted international masterclasses in brass performance across Japan, Malaysia, Peru, Brazil, and North America. His expertise spans orchestral performance practices, trumpet technique, and music pedagogy. He actively contributes to McGill's music ensembles and maintains a global profile through performances and educational outreach.
