Roman Teshome is an Assistant Professor at the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights (SIM) and Montaigne Centre for Human Rights at Utrecht University's Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance. She teaches Public International Law, Human Rights and Development, and Sustainable Development courses in bachelor and master programs.

Her research focuses on international human rights law intersections with development, particularly:
- Development-induced displacement
- Economic, social and cultural rights
- Derogation limitations during emergencies
