Professor Roger Kneebone is a Professor of Surgical Education and Engagement Science at Imperial College London’s Department of Surgery & Cancer, part of the Faculty of Medicine. He leads the Imperial College Centre for Engagement and Simulation Science (ICCESS) and co-directs the Royal College of Music-Imperial College Centre for Performance Science. His roles include Professor of Anatomy at the Royal Academy of Arts and Gresham College Visiting Professor of Medical Education. He holds a PhD in surgical education and has pioneered interdisciplinary approaches to medical training, integrating simulation, performance arts, and humanities.
His research focuses on surgical education, simulation science, and the intersection of medicine with performing arts. Notable projects include the Chemical Kitchen initiative, blending culinary arts with chemistry education, and the SHARP project addressing knife violence through simulation. He has authored over 280 publications and the book Expert: Understanding the Path to Mastery (2020). Awards include the National Teaching Fellow and Imperial President’s Medal for Societal Engagement.
