Roger Durham is the Palmatier Endowed Professor of Political Science at Aquinas College and Director of the International Studies Program. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Oregon, and a B.S. from Southern Oregon State College.
His research focuses on International Humanitarian Law, Responsibility to Protect (R2P), Authoritarianism, Climate Governance, and U.S. Foreign Policy. Recent work examines the Ukraine conflict’s legal dimensions, climate policy at the local level, and neo-nationalist trends in global politics.
Key research themes include the ethical application of military intervention, the intersection of religion and authoritarianism in Putin’s Russia, and the impact of local governance on climate change adaptation. His work bridges theoretical frameworks like Just War Theory with contemporary crises.

He advises students on climate and R2P research, securing multiple Summer Research Grants. Active in interdisciplinary initiatives, he chairs panels on international law and co-teaches OLLI classes on global affairs.
