Rocco Friebel

Dr Rocco Friebel is an Associate Professor of Health Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where he also serves as Director of the Global Surgery Policy Unit (a partnership with the Royal College of Surgeons of England) and Deputy Director of LSE Health. He specializes in health system delivery economics, healthcare regulation, and quality improvement. His research focuses on regulation, health system strengthening, patient safety, and priority setting, with publications in leading journals like Health Affairs and The Lancet.

Dr Friebel teaches courses including Health Care Regulation, Quality and Outcomes in Clinical Sciences, and Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. He directs the Executive MSc Healthcare Decision-Making program in collaboration with NICE. His external roles include Editor-in-Chief of Health Economics, Policy and Law, Non-Resident Fellow at the Center for Global Development, and advisor to WHO and OECD on healthcare metrics and emergency care systems.

He holds a PhD from Imperial College London and previously worked as a Senior Analyst at the Health Foundation. His research emphasizes practical applications, such as evaluating centralized stroke services in London and analyzing bed occupancy impacts on hospital readmissions.
