Roberto Perna is a Tenured Professor of Classical Archaeology at the University of Macerata, affiliated with the Department of Humanities. He serves as Director of the University's Archaeological Mission in Hadrianopolis (Albania) and Palokaster (Albania), focusing on ancient topography and cultural heritage management. His roles include coordination of the Carta Archeologica della Provincia di Macerata (CAM-M) project and leadership in international archaeological surveys.

Research Interests center on Classical Archaeology, ancient topography, and cultural heritage management. His work explores Roman urbanization processes in Piceno and Adriatic regions, archaeological documentation techniques, and the integration of cultural heritage into modern landscapes. He specializes in instrumentum domesticum studies, particularly Roman ceramics, and leads projects like the TAU Project and Musanet for museum microclimate monitoring.
Publications include over 190 works on Roman provincial archaeology, with recent contributions to the CAM-M series documenting sites in Macerata. His 2024 articles focus on systemic analysis of Roman settlements, religious structures, and infrastructure.
Projects include directorship of the Archaeological Mission of Macerata at Hadrianopolis (since 2018) and Villamagna excavations. He has coordinated initiatives like the Regional Archaeological System and PlayMarche cultural district.
