Roberto Mario Danese

Roberto Mario Danese serves as a Full Professor of Classical Philology, Reception of Classical Culture, and Literature and Cinema at the University of Urbino Carlo Bo. He directs the International Center of Plautine Studies and since 2024 has founded and directs the International Inter-University Center of Plautine Studies. As co-director of the Editio Plautina Sarsinatis, he contributes significantly to the critical study of Plautus' comedies. At the University of Urbino, he founded and presides over the Cesare Questa University Theater Center, demonstrating his commitment to bridging academic scholarship with theatrical practice.

Professor Danese's research spans several interconnected fields of classical scholarship and cultural studies. His primary focus is on archaic Latin theater, particularly the works of Plautus, where he has made significant contributions through textual criticism, metric analysis, and performance studies. His work extends to the reception of classical culture in modern and contemporary contexts, especially the intersection of ancient literature with cinema. He has published extensively on film adaptations of classical works, including Fellini's Satyricon and cinematic interpretations of ancient myths. His scholarly interests also encompass anthropology of the ancient world, stage translation practices, and the complex relationship between textual scholarship and theatrical performance. Professor Danese has founded and directs academic book series focused on theater, poetry, translation, and Plautine studies, further cementing his role as a leading figure in these interdisciplinary fields.

Professor Danese holds significant administrative responsibilities at the University of Urbino, serving as Rectoral Delegate for Libraries and University Press. He has held leadership positions including President of the Quality Committee for six years and currently serves as Vice-coordinator of the University's Evaluation Committee. Additionally, he is President of the Evaluation Committee at the Urbino Academy of Fine Arts. His expertise is recognized nationally through his registration in ANVUR's Experts Evaluators Register and his service on evaluation committees as both disciplinary expert and President.
