معرفی
Robert Wilkinson is a Professor in Infectious Diseases at Imperial College London and Honorary Professor at the University of Cape Town, directing their Centre for Infectious Diseases Research in Africa. He established the Tuberculosis lab at the Francis Crick Institute in 2016 after serving as MRC Programme Leader in London. His career spans clinical research, immunology, and molecular biology of tuberculosis, particularly in HIV-1 coinfected populations.
- University of Cambridge (MA Natural Sciences, 1988)
- University of Oxford (BM BCh, 1987)
- Royal Postgraduate Medical School (PhD, 1997)
- Royal College of Physicians (FRCP, 2003)
- Academy of Medical Sciences (FMedSci, 2017)
Wilkinson's research focuses on the clinical and immunological aspects of tuberculosis with special attention to HIV coinfection. His work explores T cell responses, blood-brain barrier dynamics, and pharmacokinetics of antituberculosis drugs. He has developed in vitro BBB models and investigates immune-modulatory effects of statins in chronic diseases.
Recent publications (2025) demonstrate his ongoing work in T cell immunology, drug pharmacokinetics, and host-pathogen interactions across journals like Journal of Infection, The Lancet, and Frontiers in Immunology. His research spans TB/HIV coinfection, inflammatory biomarkers, and novel therapeutic approaches.
Scientific achievements include:
- Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (FMedSci, 2017)
- Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP, 2003)
Wilkinson leads the Tuberculosis lab at the Francis Crick Institute and maintains strong collaboration with South African institutions. He has contributed to tuberculous meningitis guidelines and vaccine trials while investigating immune-dysregulation mechanisms in coinfected patients. His work appears in over 456 publications with particular emphasis on tuberculosis research.
