Robert Sinnerbrink is a Professor of Philosophy at Macquarie University, affiliated with the School of Humanities Ethics and Agency Research Centre. He holds a PhD from the University of Sydney (2002) and has held academic roles at multiple institutions before joining Macquarie. His research focuses on aesthetics, philosophy of film, phenomenology, and cinematic ethics, exploring how film shapes ethical experience.
- Education: First Class Honours in Philosophy (University Medal), PhD on Hegel, Heidegger, and Modernity (University of Sydney), postgraduate studies at Humboldt Universität (Berlin).
- Affiliations: Editorial roles in Film-Philosophy, Projections, and Transformations; former Chair of the Australasian Society for Continental Philosophy.
Research Interests: Robert’s work bridges philosophy and cinema, particularly cinematic ethics—the ethical potential of film as a medium. His ARC Future Fellowship project (2014–2018) explored ethical experience through film collaborations with the University of Glasgow. Current projects include the intersection of existentialism, politics, and aesthetics.
