He is affiliated with the Ethics and Agency Research Centre (CAVE) and holds an ORCID ID of 0000-0002-4106-839X. His academic journey began with a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Sydney in 2014, followed by a Macquarie University Research Fellowship (MQRF) from 2015-2018. Since 2019, he has led a Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) project.
Hochman's research centers on fundamental questions about race: its biological and social reality, relationship to racism and ethnicity, and definitional challenges through philosophy of language. His fingerprint analysis reveals dominant expertise in Racialization (100%), Naturalism (85%), Conceptual Analysis (61%), and Social Constructionism (36%). He critically examines proximate versus evolutionary explanations at the biology-psychology intersection, particularly addressing conflations in 'how' and 'why' explanations.
His publication trends show consistent output since 2013 with 24 research outputs including books, articles, and reviews. Recent works (2022-2025) focus on race skepticism, social ontology, and critiques of biological race concepts, demonstrating increasing engagement with interdisciplinary perspectives while maintaining philosophical rigor. Key themes include the illusion of biological race, racialization processes, and the utility of social constructionism.
