Robert Rhew is Professor in Geography and Environmental Science, Policy & Management at UC Berkeley. He directs the Atmospheric Biogeochemistry Lab investigating trace gas exchange between land and atmosphere.
Education: Ph.D. in Earth Sciences (Geochemistry) from Scripps Institution of Oceanography; Graduate Diploma from Australian National University; B.A. in Earth & Planetary Sciences from Harvard University.
Research Focus: Quantifies biosphere-atmosphere exchange of trace gases critical for climate regulation and ozone chemistry, particularly halocarbons, hydrocarbons and reduced sulfur compounds. Field sites include Arctic tundra, salt marshes, and forest ecosystems.
Leadership: Faculty Director of Sagehen Creek Field Station and former Interim Faculty Director for UC Natural Reserves. Associate Editor for Biogeosciences journal.
Honors: Multiple fellowships including UCAR/NOAA Postdoctoral Fellowship, NCAR Faculty Fellowship, and UC Berkeley Presidential Chair Fellowship.
