Robert Miller is an Associate Professor of Law at the University of South Dakota School of Law. He joined the faculty in 2022 after practicing as a partner in the corporate restructuring department of Manier & Herod, P.C. in Nashville, Tennessee, where he represented insurance companies in insolvency matters and taught Business Associations at the Nashville School of Law.
His research focuses on convertible DIP financing and exit financing in Chapter 11 cases, and restructuring heavily regulated entities like higher education institutions and hydrocarbon producers. His work examines conflicts between federal insolvency law and substantive state/federal law.
Recent publications analyze topics such as bankruptcy directors, higher education financing, and valuation hearings for mortgage portfolios. His scholarship appears in journals including the American Bankruptcy Law Journal, Kentucky Law Journal, and West Virginia Law Review.
Professor Miller has presented at conferences like the 21st Biennial Judge Joe Lee Bankruptcy Institute and the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges. He holds a J.D. from Emory University School of Law (2011) and a B.A. in Political Science and History from the University of Rochester (2008).
He is licensed to practice law in Tennessee and North Carolina.
