Robert Kpogo is an Instructor in Ethnomusicology and Director of the West African Music Ensemble at the University of Alberta's Department of Music since 2003. He holds a BA in Philosophy from Saint Boniface College, University of Manitoba (1989), pursued education studies there, and completed a master's program at Newman Theological College. Currently, he works full-time at W.P. Wagner High School in Special Needs Education while leading university ensembles.
His expertise centers on West African musical traditions, performance practices, and cultural preservation. He has directed the West African Music Ensemble, staging annual community performances, and toured with Wajjo African Drummers across Western Canada and the Eastern U.S. since 2003. He conducts educational workshops for schools and institutions, including the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium and Suzuki Music Institution.
