Rev. Robert A. Dowd, C.S.C., is the 18th President of the University of Notre Dame and a Professor in the Department of Political Science. His research focuses on African politics, religion and politics, ethnic conflict, and comparative democratization. As president, he has prioritized accessibility and affordability of education, announcing the Pathways to Notre Dame Initiative, making the university need-blind and loan-free for all students. He has also overseen global initiatives and founded the Ford Program in Human Development Studies and Solidarity.
