Rina Ariga is a Visiting Academic Clinical Lecturer and Extraordinary Junior Research Fellow at The Queen's College, University of Oxford. She is also a Consultant Cardiologist specializing in heart failure, cardiomyopathy, and imaging. Her affiliations include the Neubauer Group (Oxford Centre for Clinical Magnetic Resonance Research) and the Watkins Group (Inherited Heart Muscle Disease Group).
Dr. Ariga holds qualifications including MBBS, BSc (Hons), DPhil, and MRCP. Her doctoral research pioneered Diffusion Tensor CMR for assessing myocardial disarray in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), a breakthrough enabling non-invasive detection of arrhythmic risks. She collaborates with Computer Science to integrate machine learning and computational modeling with ECG and imaging data.
Her research focuses on HCM heterogeneity, leveraging UK Biobank and international datasets to individualize patient care through deep learning of ECG and CMR data. She is pursuing an MSc in Clinical Trials at the Nuffield Department of Population Health to advance evidence-based treatment development.
Key contributions include identifying ECG phenotypes associated with arrhythmic risk and validating AI-driven HCM detection methods. Her work has been recognized with awards for her DPhil research and media attention for its clinical impact.
