Rima Baalbaki is a Senior Technical Research Specialist at The Cyprus Institute’s Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C). She holds a PhD in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Helsinki and has extensive experience in environmental and atmospheric research. Her work spans air quality monitoring, particulate matter pollution, aerosol chemistry, and new particle formation. She has collaborated internationally, including at CERN’s CLOUD experiments, and led citizen science initiatives addressing water contamination. Rima teaches aerosol measurement techniques and emphasizes hands-on instrument use and data analysis.
Education:
- PhD in Atmospheric Sciences, University of Helsinki
- Research Assistant, American University of Beirut (AUB), 2010–2016
- Internship, Environmental Core Laboratory, AUB
Research Focus: Investigates particulate matter pollution in Lebanon, aerosol emissions from e-cigarettes/waterpipes, and sub-3nm particle formation. Pioneered long-term particle measurements in Cyprus and contributed to CERN’s MSA nucleation experiments. Advocates for community-driven environmental solutions through citizen science.
Grants & Collaborations: Collaborated with Virginia Commonwealth University, AUB’s Nature Conservation Center, and CERN. No explicit grants listed.
Labs & Teams: Leads aerosol analysis at CARE-C’s monitoring station and collaborates with global networks like CLOUD.
