Niki Paisi is a Researcher at The Cyprus Institute's Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C). She holds a PhD in Energy, Environment and Atmospheric Sciences from The Cyprus Institute, following an MSc in Toxicology from the University of Birmingham and a BSc in Environmental Science and Technology from Cyprus University of Technology. Her research focuses on regional air quality modeling, health impacts of particulate matter pollution, and the interplay between climate change and air pollution effects on human health.
Her work emphasizes understanding differential toxicity of pollutants and assessing the collective health impacts of climate change and air quality. Research areas include emission inventories, chemical mechanisms, and policy-relevant health outcomes linked to carbonaceous aerosols. Key contributions involve modeling carbonaceous aerosols' health impacts in Europe, evaluating inter-industry emissions' health consequences, and analyzing coal power plant impacts on mortality.
Niki has collaborated on studies projecting air pollution effects under future socioeconomic scenarios and contributed to disease burden assessments using advanced modeling frameworks like WRF-CHEM. Her work bridges environmental science with public health policy, aiming to inform mitigation strategies for air pollution-related health risks.
