Boris Mifka is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Physics, University of Rijeka. His research focuses on atmospheric science, environmental pollution, and climate studies, with particular emphasis on particulate matter analysis, desert dust deposition, and their impacts on marine and coastal ecosystems. He investigates aerosol transport mechanisms, dust sources (e.g., Saharan and Asian contributions), and the climatological effects of dust events on the Adriatic region.
His work spans interdisciplinary topics including air quality in port cities like Rijeka, numerical modeling of dust outbreaks, and the biological responses of marine environments to dust deposition. Key areas of interest include microplastics in ambient air, sulfur and nitrogen species in particulate matter, and the interaction between climate factors and organic production in the Adriatic Sea.
Mifka’s research often employs advanced techniques such as receptor models (PMF), low-volume impactors, and WRF-Chem simulations to analyze aerosol composition, transport pathways, and environmental impacts. His findings contribute to policy-relevant issues like maritime pollution mitigation and climate change adaptation strategies in coastal regions.
