Paul Miller is Assistant Professor in LSU's Department of Oceanography & Coastal Sciences, leading the Coastal Meteorology (COMET) Lab. His research examines coastal weather extremes, Caribbean hydroclimatology, and land-atmosphere interactions using WRF modeling. Education includes a Ph.D. from University of Georgia and B.A./B.S. from Virginia Tech.
Primary research investigates Saharan dust impacts on Caribbean drought, tropical convection, and regional climate modeling. His NSF CAREER project studies dust-drought relationships, while other work analyzes COVID-19 quarantine effects on urban temperatures.
Recent articles focus on Caribbean flash drought, Saharan Air Layer dynamics, and innovative hurricane prediction methods. His team demonstrated aerosol impacts during extreme precipitation and developed Gulf of Mexico seasonal forecast models.
Awards include NSF CAREER (2023), LSU Rising Faculty Research Award, and Phi Kappa Phi recognition. The COMET Lab manages graduate researchers studying Saharan dust transport, downscaling, and hydrological extremes.
