Dr. Juliane Fry is an Associate Professor in the Department of Meteorology and Air Quality at Wageningen University & Research, Netherlands. Previously, she held a Professorship in Chemistry and Environmental Studies at Reed College (2008–2021). Her expertise spans climate change, air pollution, atmospheric chemistry, nitrogen cycles, and urban ecology. She earned a BS in Chemistry (University of Rochester, 2000), a PhD in Atmospheric Chemistry (Caltech, 2006), and an MSL in Environmental Law (Lewis & Clark, 2016).
Research focuses on aerosol-cloud interactions, nitrate radical chemistry, and urban air quality mitigation. She leads projects like CAINA (Cloud-Aerosol Interactions in a Nitrogen-rich Atmosphere) and MI-TRAP (Mitigating Transport-related Air Pollution in Europe). Courses taught include Principles of Urban Environmental Management and Air Quality Analysis.
Her work bridges science and policy, addressing climate adaptation, particulate matter dynamics, and environmental law. Active in field studies, she uses advanced analytical techniques (e.g., thermal dissociation spectroscopy) to study organic nitrates and secondary aerosol formation.
