Richard P. Martin is the Antony and Isabelle Raubitschek Professor of Classics at Stanford University. He specializes in Greek poetry interpretation through performance traditions and social practices, particularly Homeric epic, Greek comedy, mythology, and ancient religion.

Publications include authoritative works on Homeric speech performance, classical mythology, and Plato's Laws. He also edits significant myth collections including Bulfinch's Mythology.
Martin previously taught at Princeton for 18 years before joining Stanford in 2000. His approach connects ancient textual traditions with modern performance practices.
