Mary Ebbott is a Professor of Classics at the College of the Holy Cross, specializing in Homeric epic, oral poetics, and Greek tragedy. She holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University and is affiliated with the Homer Multitext collaborative project. Her research examines Homeric epics as oral traditions and investigates the performance contexts of ancient Greek literature.
Key works include Imagining Illegitimacy in Classical Greek Literature (2003) and co-authored Iliad 10 and the Poetics of Ambush (2010). Her scholarship bridges classical analysis with digital humanities, focusing on textual interpretation and collaborative research methods.
Teaching areas include Greek & Roman Epic and introductory Greek language courses. Her articles explore themes such as Homeric performance, character analysis (e.g., Eumaeus), intertextuality in Thucydides, and mythological reinterpretations.
