Richard Herrera

Richard Herrera is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Music and Theatre Arts at St. Mary’s University and serves as a Band Consultant for schools in San Antonio. He previously held roles such as Interim Director of Bands at Texas Lutheran University (2022-2023) and retired as Director of Bands at Louis D. Brandeis High School (2018). With 40 years in music education, he has extensive experience in band direction, adjudication, and leadership.

Research & Expertise: Herrera specializes in music education methodologies, band program development, and competitive band adjudication. His work emphasizes excellence in marching bands, concert bands, and music administration.

• Teacher of the Year (Earl Warren High School)

Advising & Leadership: He mentored student teachers at Texas State University (2018–2022) and contributed to the launch of Earl Warren and Brandeis High Schools’ music programs. Active in professional organizations like TMEA, TBA, and Phi Beta Mu.

Labs/Teams: Directed award-winning bands at Rankin, Brownfield, and Earl Warren High Schools, including Brownfield’s 1992 UIL 4A State Marching Band Championship.
