Richard Drayton is Rhodes Professor of Imperial and Global History at King's College London. His research examines how empires shaped economy, society and culture globally from 1500 to present, with focus on British/French imperialism and Caribbean intellectual history. Education includes BA from Harvard, DPhil from Yale, and positions at Cambridge, Oxford and University of Virginia.
Teaching covers British Empire history, Atlantic slavery, and global/local historical intersections. Current projects analyze imperial impacts on Europe's hinterlands and transnational class formation.
Governance roles include Conseil Scientifique of École Normale Supérieure and editorial boards of Journal of Imperial and Commonwealth History. Public engagement features Gresham College lectures on slavery's London connections and Windrush thinkers.
