Richard Boner

Richard Boner, J.D., is a part-time Lecturer in the Criminal Justice department at Belmont Abbey College. He holds an AB in Journalism from the University of North Carolina (1971) and a Juris Doctor from the UNC School of Law (1975). With over two decades of judicial experience, he served as a NC District Court Judge for 10 years and a NC Superior Court Judge for nearly 18 years. His teaching focuses on courses such as Law & Society, Criminal Procedure, and Criminal Law. Beyond academia, he is an accomplished artist with over 40 years of oil painting expertise, specializing in portraits, landscapes, and still life. He also actively participates in his church as a choir member and soloist.

His research interests stem from his judicial career, emphasizing practical applications of legal principles in criminal justice systems. Though no formal grants or lab affiliations are noted, his commitment to education is highlighted through his passion for student engagement and keeping his mind active through teaching. Personal interests include art and community involvement.
