Alexandra Robert Gordon serves as a Lecturer with expertise in Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and Criminal Justice. She currently holds a judicial position as a Judge on the San Francisco Superior Court since 2018, where she presides over felony arraignments, criminal trials, preliminary hearings, and criminal domestic violence court. Prior to this appointment, she spent nearly a decade as a Deputy Attorney General in the California Department of Justice's Government Law Section, representing constitutional officers in state and federal courts with cases extending to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Her educational foundation includes a J.D. from Harvard Law School (1998), an M. Phil. from the University of Oxford (1993), and an A.B. from Brown University (1991).
Judge Gordon's professional focus centers on high-stakes constitutional challenges within criminal justice frameworks, particularly regarding public safety regulations and civil liberties protections. Her landmark work includes defending California's ban on large-capacity magazines, shark fin trade prohibitions, charitable donor disclosure requirements, and the constitutionality of laws prohibiting conversion therapy for minors.
Her exceptional contributions were recognized with the California Lawyer of the Year Award in 2014 for successfully defending the anti-conversion therapy legislation.
Before her state legal career, she served as a supervisor and staff attorney at the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, building foundational expertise in appellate procedures and constitutional interpretation.
