Judge Linda Portnoy (ret.) is an Adjunct Professor at Seattle University School of Law and former Presiding Judge of Lake Forest Park Municipal Court (1998–2022). She holds a B.A. from Northwestern University (1975), M.A. in Philosophy from University of Wisconsin-Madison (1978), and J.D. from University of Washington (1983). Her career includes roles as a public defender, pro tem judge, and judicial educator.
Her research focuses on criminal law, impaired driving adjudication, and judicial practice. She authored key publications like LexisNexis Practice Guide: Washington Criminal Law and maintains the state’s impaired driving benchbook. She teaches criminal law, mediation, and stress management for judges at the State Judicial College.
Awards include Seattle University’s 2015 Adjunct Faculty of the Year Award. She contributed to legal reforms via roles on the Washington State Code Reviser’s Board (1997–2005) and Pattern Forms Committee (1999–2008). She founded the Shoreline/Lake Forest Park Youth Court in 2001, fostering youth involvement in restorative justice.
