معرفی
Richard Allan is a Professor of Climate Science in the Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading, UK. He has held academic and research positions at the University of Reading since 2003 and previously worked at the UK Met Office Hadley Centre. His affiliations include the National Centre for Earth Observation and the Environmental Systems Science Centre at Reading.
- PhD in Meteorology, University of Reading (1995–1998)
- BSc in Environmental Sciences, University of East Anglia (1992–1995)
His research focuses on Earth's energy imbalance, climate change, hydrological extremes, atmospheric moisture, and ocean heat uptake. He utilizes satellite observations, climate models, and reanalysis data to understand global and regional climate variability and change. Key themes include droughts, cloud feedbacks, precipitation extremes, and the water cycle under global warming.
His recent publications reveal a strong focus on observational climate science, particularly quantifying Earth's energy imbalance, ocean heat content, and hydrological changes. He frequently collaborates on large international studies and assessments, including the State of the Climate reports. His work spans climate dynamics, remote sensing, and impacts on water resources.
- Buchan Award, Royal Meteorological Society (2014)
Richard Allan has supervised multiple research projects and students, particularly in climate modeling and observational analysis. He has contributed to major climate assessments and has been involved in numerous peer reviews for top journals. His research has been supported by institutions including the UK Met Office and the National Centre for Earth Observation.
He is affiliated with the National Centre for Earth Observation at the University of Reading and contributes to collaborative research networks focused on climate monitoring and modeling.
